Scalp Micropigmentation, commonly referred to as a "hair tattoo," is a meticulous procedure employing precision micro-needles to deposit pigment into the scalp, creating the illusion of a closely buzzed hairstyle. This innovative treatment serves the dual purpose of concealing scars and providing the appearance of fuller, thicker hair for those experiencing thinning.
While the initial pigmentation may naturally fade over time, annual Touch Ups are recommended to sustain the desired density and visual impact, ensuring a consistently natural and vibrant result.
Scalp Micropigmentation After-Care:
Day 0 to Day 5:
During the initial three days following scalp micropigmentation treatment, treat your scalp as an open wound, emphasizing cleanliness. Avoid washing and engaging in strenuous activities to allow your scalp to heal. Refrain from wetting your head in the shower; instead, gently dab it with a damp cloth. Steer clear of swimming pools and hot tubs, as chlorine, water, and heat may affect color and cause premature fading. Utilize sunscreen with a factor of 50 (after 3 days) when outdoors to protect your scalp from UV rays and prevent SMP fading. As scabs form, avoid physical contact to prevent unwanted scarring.
Day 6 to 30:
Beyond the initial 6 days, your SMP will begin settling, requiring the establishment of an aftercare routine. Continue avoiding activities inducing excessive sweating and moisturize regularly with a non-greasy product every 8 hours, unless your skin is exceptionally dry. Your SMP specialist will provide personalized guidance. As your head may become slightly itchy, this is deemed normal. You can reintroduce soap during showers, preferably without alcohol or harsh chemicals.
Day 30+:
From day 30 onwards, you can resume activities like saunas, steam rooms, and swimming pools. Ensure ongoing scalp moisturization if it feels dry and apply sunscreen.
When to Wash Your Scalp after SMP:
Days 1-3: Avoid washing or wetting your head.
Days 3-6: Gently dab your head with a wet towel or flannel.
Days 6-30: Wash your head normally, avoiding harsh chemicals and alcohol.
Important Note:
Having undergone multiple sessions, it's understandable that your scalp may be tender with various impressions. The complete healing process for your treatment typically spans 7-10 days, although individual experiences may vary.
Common occurrences during this healing period include redness, itchiness, and swelling on the scalp. These reactions are entirely natural, as your body responds to the treatment. Additionally, you may observe ink leakage, a result of your body recognizing the ink as foreign and attempting to expel it. In the event of ink leakage, simply dab the affected area carefully with a damp cloth and ensure thorough drying.
